We very highly recommend taking the Taste of Catalina Food Tour – not only do you get samplings of great foods from many Avalon restaurants, but you also learn a lot about Avalon from your guides – two thumbs up.
Or… perhaps plan your trip to coincide with Avalon’s Restaurant Week.
Catalina Coffee and Cookie Company is one of the most popular coffee places on the island but they also boast a fairly decent selection of breakfast sandwiches.
Jack’s Country Kitchen offers that down-home country style breakfast and is a favorite.
The Avalon Grille features new American cuisine and regional dishes with a seasonal approach, paired with a world class selection of wines, micro-brew beers and specialty cocktails in a relaxed upscale atmosphere overlooking the bay.
Avalon Seafood has the best fish & chips hands down (and there are some GOOD fish & chips on the island). Located at the end of the Green Pleasure Pier, this little place packs one heck of a punch. Great swordfish sandwiches, too!
There are many delicious fish tacos on the island, but our favorites are at Bluewater Avalon.
Catalina BrewHouse has delicious flatbread personal pizzas, as well as some amazing homemade desserts and bakery goods. They also have some yummy beers and offer beer flights so you can try various selections.
CC Gallagher has great fine wines, an impressive craft beer selection, and cleverly constructed tapas, flatbread pizzas and panini. They also offer sushi! The ambiance draws you in and makes you want to stay… for hours. A great classy hangout spot.
Ask any local what their favorite restaurant is and we’ll bet you a nickel the answer will be Lobster Trap. There has not been any item we’ve tried on their menu that we’d deem as anything less than delicious. The price is right, but it can get crowded and there may be a wait on weekends. Worth it. Yum.
Maggie’s Blue Rose offers a trendy and creative take on Mexican fare and tortillas are made on-site. They also offer some very unexpectedly delicious cocktail concoctions.
Metropole Cafe offers fresh and delicious vegetarian and vegan options.
The Ristorante Villa Portofino is special from the get-go. For dates, special occasions or just darn good Italian food, this family owned restaurant is top notch. Mindy recommends the Scampi al Vino Bianco and says she’d “drink that garlic/lemon/butter sauce with a straw.” Their full bar has creative cocktails and delicious wines.
Chef Greg dishes up some delights at the Seaport Bistro. Sunday nights offer his famous All-You-Can-Eat Fried Chicken special and he usually has some kind of fun special on other nights. Devon loves that the Thursday night Prime Rib Buffet includes an ice cream dessert at the end! The location is a bit of a walk from downtown, but a courtesy shuttle is available. Closed Tuesdays/Wednesdays.
Steve and his team at Steve’s Steakhouse are a class act. To-die-for Filet Mignon, and the Shrimp Avalon Style is amazing. A local favorite for special nights out, offering a breathtaking overview of the harbor. A private room for special events is also available (The “Rose” Room).
